About Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is often described as a daydream state where you remain in total control. Hypnotherapy is nothing like the stage hypnosis that you may have seen on TV.
We actually go in and out of hypnosis on a daily basis without necessarily realising it. You can go into a light hypnotic state while watching tv, waking or falling asleep or driving a car. Have you ever watched TV and not really remembered what you have been watching or maybe driven your car and wondered how you got from A to B? This is because you were most likely in a hypnotic state which happens when your brain waves change naturally leading you into hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis through guided relaxation, visualisation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness. While in this state, the subconscious mind can act on any changes that you want to make around certain issues in your life.
Our mind is made up of the conscious and subconscious. The subconscious part of the mind is responsible for memories and learned associations which can create positive and negative behaviours. Sometimes these behaviours are no longer valuable to us but the subconscious doesn’t realise that, so we need a way of accessing the subconscious so we can remove them or change them in a positive way.
Hypnotherapy therefore encourages a change of perspective, it helps you “see” your difficulties in a different (less negative) light and makes them less significant or removes them completely.
You are in total control throughout the whole process.
Hypnosis is definitely not a state of sleep or unconsciousness. Most people report being aware of everything that happens, and relaxation helps but is not essential to hypnosis. Hypnotic suggestion is a means of experiencing certain helpful ideas at a level profound enough to directly influence our emotions and behaviour.
Psychological and emotional problems can be seen as the result of negative thinking; therefore, hypnotherapy aims to encourage or suggest positive ideas which can lead to self improvement.
What happens in a hypnotherapy session?
There are different types of hypnotherapy, and different ways of hypnotising someone. First, you’ll usually have a chat with your therapist to discuss what you hope to achieve and agree what methods your therapist will use. After this, the hypnotherapist may lead you into a deeply relaxed state and use your agreed methods to help you towards your goals, for example, suggesting that you don’t want to carry out a certain habit, then the therapist will gradually bring you out of the relaxed state trance.
What Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps clients pinpoint exactly what it is that they want to change about their lives, and to find what issues are getting in their way and what they need to do to move past those issues.
It does this by using a mixture of deep relaxation, hypnosis and concentrated conversations to help the client access their own subconscious thoughts and feelings to discover answers that they are unable to consciously acknowledge and work out for themselves.
You are fully in control when under hypnosis and don’t have to take on the therapist’s suggestions if you don’t want to. If necessary, you can bring yourself out of the hypnotic state at any time.

Usually, anger is a result of feeling frustrated, insulted, deceived or under threat. Feeling angry occasionally is a normal part of life. For most people, anger is a natural response that will pass quickly. On some occasions, however, it can become a difficult emotion to control. - behaving threateningly to others.
internal aggression, for example:
- speaking badly to yourself,
- denying yourself basic needs,
passive aggression, for example:
- not talking to people,
- doing things poorly on purpose,
- being sarcastic
The Effects of anger can show themselves in many ways, both physically and mentally.
Hypnotherapy can help those with anger management problems in several ways. My initial aim will be to get an understanding of the root cause of your anger. Anger management issues often result from past experiences, so, although you may think a particular person or situation is causing your anger, it may well come from yourself. Once this is understood, I can begin work helping you change this.
I will work with you through a combination of deep hypnosis and communication to help change your negative thought processes. I will involve you in relaxation techniques and suggestions to help you control your anger.
The hypno-therapeutic process will change your reaction to anger triggers. Rather than feeling overwhelmed and angry, you should feel calmer and more relaxed. Managing calmness in a stressful situation will help you to be clearer in your thinking, enabling you to respond more appropriately.
Hypnotherapy & Confidence and Self-Esteem
Do you know someone who, regardless of persistent reassurance and approval, lacks confidence in their abilities? This happens because our subconscious mind retains a set of beliefs about us that remain the same, irrespective of external contradictory reassurances. We might for example have had childhood experiences such as bullying, or sibling rivalry, which account for our levels of confidence now. For example, a comedian who believes deeply that they are a terrible comedian, will likely avoid performing, even if people tell them they are really funny. These beliefs are located deep within our subconscious mind, and this is where the focus of treatment to change must take place.

Often, people with phobias know that their fear of something is irrational and this can make it harder for them to understand and deal with. Managing phobias on a day-to-day basis is usually through avoidance, but sometimes when it becomes a more serious problem or significantly impacts their life, is contact with a hypnotherapist sought. People are also prompted to take action when they don’t want to pass on their phobia to their children.
